UG admission in Delhi University not to be online only

The Delhi University is carrying the UG admission both online and offline from years and now it is proposed to be changed as completely online.

For the academic session of 2015-2016, a group of 23 committee member made a seating on the discussion for the different undergraduate programs, for making it online just like the Post graduate courses.

After a long discussion, with a complete concern, it is decided that the undergraduate courses for Delhi university admission will remain stuck to both application an online and offline as well. The committee member said – “The admission process will not be completely online. It will be very much on the lines of previous years and will continue to be offered in both modes,” and also made a decision saying that “Overall, there will not be much deviation in the admission process from the previous pattern and no major changes are expected,”

The group of 23 members in the meeting who has submitted proposal included, registrar member, principals of different top DU colleges, Dean of various sections like commerce and science and the executive member of DU council.

For the first time in 2013-13 the centralized online registration form was introduced in addition to the offline OMR registration form. So far only the admission of post-graduate was taken online.

Some of the important concerns raised by the DU’s server were:
There will be a large connection and proper preparation required for the UG’c admission online – said the committee member. The other students who belong to economically weak family may not have proper infrastructure for an online application process.

Further the member said: “Since the admissions will continue in the offline mode as well, the committee’s recommendation to do away with the printing of prospectuses cannot be implemented”. Further around 54,000 of students makes the enrollment in UG course around 75 colleges every year and the 2.5 lakhs of prospectuses are distributed every year. So the admission committee flashed to take the printed prospectus and offline admission.

Nextly the committee’s member also recommended for reduction of the time-frame by an offline application and increases the online mode as it has been considered and will be accepted.

The other issue raised was admission on the basis of sports quota; it was proposed that instead of making an admission on the basis of separate fitness examination it must be conducted in a centralized manner.

Lastly, decided that the admission will be expected to start from 2nd of June 2015 and will end by 14th of August.
